About Impact Play

Impact play is the art of the swat, the thud and the sting. This collection brings together floggers in suede, deerskin, leather and silicone, spanking paddles, riding crops, canes, tawses, slappers and whips. Start with something soft and wide, warm up slowly, and discover exactly how much impact you want to make.

How to choose impact play toys

Thud versus sting

Every impact toy sits somewhere between two sensations. Thud is a deep, spreading feeling that comes from wide, soft or heavy implements. Sting is sharper and more surface-level, from thin, rigid or narrow ones.

  • Thuddy: suede and deerskin floggers, wide leather paddles, padded and fur-lined paddles.
  • Middle ground: leather floggers, slappers, tawses and wooden paddles.
  • Stingy: riding crops, canes, silicone floggers and whips, thin leather cords.

Best impact toys for beginners

  • A short suede or soft leather flogger, which is forgiving and easy to control.
  • A padded leather paddle for classic spanking.
  • A short riding crop, around 12 to 18 inches, for precise taps.
  • An intro spanking kit if you want to compare a few sensations at once.

Longer floggers, canes, single-tail whips and bullwhips take practice to aim. Learn on a pillow before you aim at a person.

Material notes

Leather and suede are classic and soften with use. Silicone is non-porous and easy to clean. Wood is firm and noisy in the best way. Imprint paddles leave a word behind on the skin, so make sure your partner has agreed to marks before you pick one.

How to do impact play safely

This widely shared community guidance helps keep impact play exciting rather than risky:

  • Aim for fleshy areas: the buttocks, the upper back between the shoulder blades (to either side of the spine) and the backs and outer sides of the thighs.
  • Avoid the danger zones: the head, face, neck, spine, tailbone, kidneys (the lower back just under the ribs), joints and the stomach.
  • Warm up. Start with light strokes and gradually build intensity. Skin that is warmed up handles more.
  • Watch for wrap. Flogger tails can curl around the body and hit ribs or hips. Adjust your distance so the tips land where you mean them to.
  • Check in often, for example with a 1 to 10 scale, and agree on a safe word before you start.
  • Do not play while drunk or high, and stop if skin breaks.
  • Plan aftercare. Water, a blanket, a cool cloth or lotion on warmed skin, and a debrief afterward.

Impact play pairs beautifully with restraint and sensory play. Add cuffs and restraints to hold your partner in position, or a blindfold from hoods and blindfolds so they never know where the next stroke will land. Care and cleaning

  • Leather and suede: wipe with a damp cloth or leather cleaner, air dry and condition leather occasionally. Brush suede gently to lift the nap.
  • Silicone: wash with warm, soapy water and dry.
  • Wood and rattan: wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry immediately; never soak.
  • Store floggers hanging or laid flat so the falls do not tangle.
  • If an implement ever breaks skin, keep it to that one partner from then on.
